Using Grapevine in Reptile Enclosures

by Juniper Kuchar October 02, 2025 1 min read

Grapevine wood decor is a natural byproduct of grape farming that has been sustainably repurposed for reptile decor. Collected as waste during grape harvesting, these thick, branchy vines have been sandblasted to remove bark, revealing a bumpy, knobby texture. At Pangea, we offer grapevine decor as branchesand tunnels

Using Grapevine in Reptile Enclosures

Grapevine is best suited for drier, warmer habitats, such as arid bearded dragon and leopard gecko enclosures. It is a medium-weight hardwood that stands up well to the dry heat. Consider placing it under your light array to use as a natural basking platform.

Grapevine branches make great climbing structures for your reptiles, while tunnels can be used as natural hiding places.

Like many natural wood products, grapevine can be susceptible to mold or rot in wetter environments. Regular cleaning and allowing the decor to periodically dry out can help mitigate this risk.

Directions

Sand any sharp edges before placing branch in your reptile’s enclosure

Clean with veterinary disinfectant (e.g., chlorhexidine) or bake at 250°F for 1-2 hours. If baking, monitor closely to avoid scorching or fire.

Ensure the branch is securely positioned to prevent shifting or falling that could harm your reptile.

Grapevine decor may rot or mold with excessive moisture. Clean often and avoid prolonged exposure to moisture to mitigate these issues.
