New Pangea Reptile Wood Quality Standards

New Wood Quality Standards

At Pangea Reptile, the quality of your experience is our top priority. As we move into 2026, we’re introducing updated quality standards for our wood products, so you receive the best possible pieces for your next terrarium project.

Every piece of wood we ship must meet these new standards before it’s approved for packing. If a piece doesn’t pass our checks, it’s set aside and never sent out.

Malaysian Driftwood

Malaysian driftwood is designed to be a basking spot for both terrestrial and aquatic reptiles.Pieces that can’t reasonably be used for basking by a reptile of the appropriate size are not shipped.

We also make sure each piece is free from excessively sharp edges that could pose a risk to you or your reptile. This is especially important with driftwood, which can naturally develop pointed features.

Jungle Wood

It’s good when jungle wood is curved, but not too curved! We ensure each piece has a balanced, consistent wave pattern, along with the unique, wavy surface that makes this hardwood a standout in reptile enclosures.

Each piece is also checked for a rough, fibrous texture that supports climbing and grip, while remaining free from any excessively sharp edges that could pose a risk to you or your reptile.

Ghost Wood

Ghost wood is typically smooth due to the sandblasted removal of bark, but it should still provide enough texture to offer secure, grippable footing for climbing reptiles. It’s also known for its natural contrast, with intermingling light and dark color bands that give each piece a distinct, visually appealing look. We select our pieces with these characteristics in mind.

Each piece is carefully inspected to confirm it’s free from any excessively sharp edges that could pose a risk to you or your reptile. We also check that every branch includes an appropriate number of sturdy offshoots based on the selected size.

Manzanita Wood

Manzanita wood is prized for its expansive yet sturdy, lightweight branching structure, giving reptiles multiple pathways to climb. With this in mind, each piece is evaluated to confirm it includes the right number of offshoots for its size, along with a healthy amount of forked branches to support an engaging climbing experience.

Each branch is also carefully inspected to ensure it’s free from any excessively sharp edges that could pose a risk to you or your reptile.

Sandblasted Grapevine

Since the industry standard for growing grapevine is to let it climb on metal wires, there are rare cases where the wood can grow around the wire and become embedded with it. Every piece is carefully inspected to make sure no metal is present before it’s shipped to you. Beyond that, we also check for any sharp points, ensuring your grapevine branch is safe for both you and your reptile.

In addition to these quality checks, each piece is evaluated for its structure and character. We look for a healthy number of knobby offshoots based on size, giving the wood its signature shape and preventing it from being just a simple, straight branch.

Grapevine Tunnel

Our grapevine tunnels are typically designed to be in a half-circle shape, creating a functional hide that reptiles can comfortably use. Each piece we ship features a flat bottom and semi-circular form, allowing it to sit flat in an enclosure while providing reliable cover. Because these pieces are often used as hides, we take special consideration of your reptile’s ability to fit under it.

Since grapevine is commonly grown along metal wires, there are rare cases where the wood can grow around and embed that wire. Every piece is carefully inspected to ensure no metal is present before it’s shipped. We also check for any sharp points, making sure your grapevine tunnel is free from excessively sharp edges that could pose a risk to you or your reptile.

Cork Bark Round

We ensure that your cork bark meets industry standards for natural coloration, avoiding pieces that appear overly pale or discolored. While it’s normal for cork to feature traces of moss or lichen, we also make sure that pieces are free from spider webs or excess dirt before being shipped.

When it comes to usability, we avoid pieces that are too thick to easily fit a reptile and incorporate into your enclosure design. Additionally, although cork bark is generally soft, sharp edges can still occur, so each piece is inspected to ensure it’s free from any excessively sharp areas that could pose a risk to you or your reptile.

Cork Bark Flat

We make sure that your cork bark meets industry standards for coloration, not appearing overly pale or discolored. It’s also normal to see some moss or lichen present, but any pieces with spider webs or excess dirt are filtered out during inspection.

Additionally, we avoid pieces that are too thick to easily position or integrate into your enclosure, and while cork bark is typically soft and easy to handle, each piece is still checked to ensure it remains free from any excessively sharp edges that could pose a risk to you or your reptile.
