  • Shed stuck on eye -- got it off!

    Hi everybody.

I have had cresties for 7 years and this is a first for me.

Last night, I noticed that one of my girls had just shed but had shed stuck exactly over one eyeball. It was clearly bothering her because she kept trying to scratch it off with her hind foot.

First, I tried using a wet Q-tip to lightly rub the edges of the stuck shed on the crest above her eye. That helped somewhat. I also sprayed her face with water. She started to lick the eye, so I put her back in her cage.

After half an hour with no progress, I took her out again and used blunt-ended tweezers to grab onto the 1 mm or so of shed that was separated from her crests. She jerked her head away and the shed came right off in the tweezers. I think that spraying the shed and giving it time to soften helped with this process.

It's worth noting that this girl hates being handled but she was very patient with me trying to get the shed off her eye, especially with the Q-tip.

Hope this helps somebody if they find the same thing going on with one of their geckos.
