  • Whew! Hatchling #2!!

    Finally! Yep, another Birth Announcement!

On 05-05-06, shortly after 2am, and after 85 days of incubating...this little one, weighing 1.9 grams, has emerged. This time I caught part of the hatching!

    First hatchling photo:

    And a few more:

Now that it's over, the first clutch safe and sound, I can start to feel easier about the upcoming hatchling clutches. I was really on edge since this was my first, I didn't want anything to go wrong.

I was also able to take a few more photos of Hatchling #1 today:

And a couple of sibling shots:

For those of you who didn't catch the thread "Birth Announcement", the parents of these two are:

Mom is Polly - Super Dalmatian Blusher (purchased from Sarah, Crested Lady)

Dad is Mike - Super Dalmatian (owned by Sarah, Crested Lady)

Again MANY MANY THANKS to Sarah for letting Polly stay with Mike for that short while. And thank goodness cresties retain, lol. I can't wait to see what spots develop...already they look promising! Hurrah!

Off to bed now, gads, it's almost 8am! I have to work my long 3 day 12 hour work week so I might not be on a whole lot this weekend. Off to dream of cresties...

Yeaaa!!! Congratulations, Dorothy! Polly and Mike's other hatchlings have developed a lot of spots as they've aged... so keep an eye out for them! (I love finding new spots on a crestie. Lol.)

Oh, man, congrats Dorothy! I am jealous of you; those are amazing genes..... The hatchlings look good, and from what I've heard 1.9 g is an excellent birth weight. Please, PLEASE take dated developmental shots of those two as they age!!! There's a lot of debate about dal spot development and you could shed new light on it..... Plus I woould just love to see the spots come out.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate all the kind comments! I'm so happy to have my first hatchlings be healthy! They're both doing great and I'm anxious to see how many spots they'll develop.

RangerGrrl, I may try to do that, take photos showing their development and the spot morphing. I've taken photos everyday thusfar, so it wouldn't be too much trouble to continue to take photos showing the development. I plan on holding back these anyway (even if they were god-awful ugly) since they're my first hatchlings.

Sarah, I already see lots of spots! Canyon (hatchling #1) is peppered with tiny spots on his head and Masquerade (hatchling #2) has some really nice sized ones as well. Thankfully, they each have a large spot in a different area so I can tell them apart when I do combined photo shoots!

Mikhail, Thanks! I really try to give my cresties the best possible care. Everyone is housed seperately to ensure that they get one on one attention and care. Only my breeders are paired up, and I'm sticking with 1.1 pairing for now. I may eventually have a few 1.2 pairing but I won't go over a 1.2 pair.
