  • New Garg Owner!

    Hello folks,

Had a spare 18x18x24 tank sitting around and decided to create a setup for a Garg. Found this beautiful little fellow from a local breeder and brought him home today. Not really sure on the morph of this one however I believe he is of the yellow coloration. Also not sure if these are his fired up colors or not, but will update should I find a color change. He seems to be quite well started weighing in at 33 grams. The breeder believed he was around a year and a half old.

Anyways, just wanted to say hello and share a couple pics!

    Thanks!

Hi he's a lovely gargoyle, congratulations.
        Such gorgeous eyes!
At a guess 're morph I think reticulated with irregular banding
The colour of his belly, along his side's around vent & on the underside of his tail will determine if he is yellow or not, I believe these areas should be yellow if being defined as being yellow.
Colours are always difficult in photos as often they do not seem to display actual colouring very well.
        Whatever he is he's beautiful.

This picture may give you an idea 're yellow.
It is of 2 of my gargoyles not long after I got them, that are quite a bit bigger now one yellow & one more grey.

Thank you everyone! Haven't decided on a name quite yet, probably going to wait until he is settled in and I can handle him so I can decide on an appropriate name. I will try to get some pictures in natural lighting as his colors do look quite different from what is represented in the photos above.

How large can I expect him to get? I would assume that they can easily reach 50+ grams after a few years. Also, is an 18x18x24 Tall tank suitable for the entirety of the geckos life?

Thanks for your help and comments!

Hi that tank should be fine, however some gargoyles seem to struggle in tanks that are too large & go on hunger strikes not really sure why this occurs as I'm the wild their living areas are not restricted. Some gargoyles thrive in larger tanks. Guess it partly comes down to the individual. Their personalities are so variable.

Their weight can be quite variable my current youngest is 17 months & she weights a good 53g whereas my largest chunky gecko weights in at 72g she's is a bit overweight but has a big structure too she's about 8 years old.

I think that their colour changes can be so dramatic & unless you spent time watching these creatures you will not be able to appreciate this.

He is a beauty!!! I would say his morph is a reticulated but as fAr as colors go..... I don't have a clue lol... His eyes however, are stunning.... if it was me, I'd name him Wasserspeier- that is gargoyle is German language.
