  • Why the crest?

Just out of interest: Does anyone know if there is any evolutionary reasons why they have the crests? (and not that i would dare do anything to harm him, is it *dead-skin*? would it bleed, or be hurt if one of the *points* were to break off or get damaged?)
If all you want from life is *Roses* and life gives you Roses... Then how are you going to smell anything else?

The crests might help to break up the outline of the gecko, making it less visible to predators. Most of the patterns/morphs also seem to be adaptations for camouflage - some of them, like harlequin, are quite similar to dappled light in a forest.

Alternatively the crests could make the head appear larger/spikier and this could discourage predators by making the gecko look too difficult or risky to eat.
