  • Anyone used these front opening glass terrariums?

    http://www.exo-terra.com/EN/products...rariums_i.html

I was just wondering if anyone had an opinion of them for housing young cresties. I like the front-opening style and the screen top for ease of misting. Plus, they are attractive.

So, any yeas? Nays? Any problems with them?

I've seen them in a few pet stores and really like the design. Before getting one, however, I wanted to hear if anyone had any problems with them or anything I've overlooked that may be harmful to my geckos.

I've seen the large ones for anywhere from $75 to 100 in retail pet stores. I haven't priced them out at reptile swaps or other dealers.

See my post above I got the largest one its 18x18x18 Its very cool In my opinion, very easy to clean. I espically like the rock wall in the back My sons gecko seems to really like it as i dont think he ha has left the wall for awhile, It also has a lockable front, wich I really like because my sons only 4 and thinks he can open the cage to hold him as he wishes. There is nothing I dont like about it, The price seems fair to me, since I had nothing to compare it to. the construction is very good.

            I paid $82.00 for mine

            Good luck

The cost doesn't matter that much to me, they'll cost less than the geckos did since I don't plan on buying a hundred of them. I just want a couple pretty, easy to access display tanks for a couple babies.

I'm thinking of rigging up some hidden LED red lights set into the climbing branches or something. Give me some "spot lights" I can turn on if I wish. Either that or an overhead red light, I guess...although what I'm picturing with the LEDs would be cool.

Hopefully I can deck it out with some sort of nice plant, some fun climbing vines, etc. My biggest worry was are they safe and can I get to the cage easily for care and maintenance and to handle the geckos. The examples of this cage that I looked at I couldn't see any areas of danger, but I always like to ask the people in the know first.

              Thanks everyone, for your comments.

For you ideas on LED lighting, here is a link to some you can purchase and a walk through on how to make your own.

Build quality is good on the Exo's.... so as long as they fit what ever criteria you have for size, space, cost, etc... .so they get a thumbs up

I just bought the 12"X12"X18" to house one adult crestie and some live plants that I havent bought yet. It's all set up with coconut bedding substrate and some fake vines, im just waiting on the gecko. The design is really really cool and its so easy to access the inside to change water/food or take out the cresties. The price was $79.99, about $60 for me since I work at a pet store I highly recommend these terrariums

Eric, thank you so much for that link.

                    That thread is great.

I want to see if I can rig some LED's mounted pointing out the bottom of a big climbing vine and a couple at the top of the enclosure. If not, it looks like just mounting them at the top should work fine.

Thanks again, just the info I was looking for!

(I wonder if a small blue LED would bother them...)

And everyone, thanks for the input.

That link to the glasscages.com was helpful, too. The 90 gallon square side access tank? Ohhh orh orh orh! (Tim Allen grunt)

I can see a couple good sized plants in there...creating a rock like styrofoam climbing wall in the back...maybe a waterfall? Oh, the possibilities. When I have some adults, that site will be my new best friend.

yeaaaaaaaa i was gonna get them too.. but they cant ship glass.. fedex and UPS doesnt ship glass cages, but the acrylics can be shipped. but if you really want a glass cage, you can get them when they ship it to reptile shows. and if u live near any, you can just pick one up

Yep! That's the link I read on making the walls and the method I'm planning on using. I'd like to use some colored sand to enhance the look, maybe incorporate some rocks or shells. Looks like a week long project to me!

                            Thanks again!
