  • My Little passed away today.

Not a lot of you have heard of Little, possibly a few of my real close friends knew about my rescue enigma leopard gecko. Little was the one animal I couldn't sell when I sold my original collection. I tried several times to re-home her (free with a lifetime supply of dubia) and never found a suitable home so I kept her.

Little was 3.5 years old and weighed 12 grams at her heaviest. She had ALL the enigma leopard gecko issues; spinning, poor balance, poor aim, head tilt, etc. I got her for free when I bought a few other leos from another vender. I contemplated euthanizing her more times than I can count, but she would always trundle right up to the front of her cage, looking for roaches or attention. She never balked when I put her in a sauna or cleaned her eyelids. She always had the most perfect sheds. She hated getting misted but loved to lick the walls.

I never took any pictures of little, honestly she always looked terrible and I was worried people would think I kept my animals so poorly that one must look like that, but she was great. It took me over two years to name her. I never thought she'd live as long as she did. I knew she was a visitor, you could tell by looking at her that she wouldn't be around in 15 years like other leopard geckos. Because of her I never brought any other enigmas into my collection, I refused to breed them and spent length talking to other breeders about their issues and how they dealt with them.

I'm sorry I never took any pictures of her, but she'll always be in my heart. I think I may be done with rescues though.

Little was my rescue, and I will always miss her.

        Sam,

It sounds like she had a wonderful life with you and that you will have many fond memories of her to remember.

Im sorry for your loss too But you gave her the best life and care possible. If it weren't for you, she wouldn't have lived as long as she did.

I'm very sorry. She sounds like she was pretty special.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.

You sound like you have too big of a heart to refuse to rescue in the future. I think it's one of the first things we tell ourselves in our grief, but you did a good thing and you will likely do many more.

I'm so sorry for your loss. But you're a wonderful person for taking on a rescue and giving her a life that many wouldn't have had the time, patience, or inclination to do. You made her time special and meaningful and for that, you have my utmost respect.

I am so sorry for your lose but I thank you for letting her have a life that most wouldn't. I too look after the ones who have special needs. I have heard how certain people will just use these guys has feeders or they just do away with them because they are not perfect. I look at us all as not being perfect and to throw away a creature for this reason is so outrageous to that if I can save them then I will. Besides some of the ones with special needs have the best personalities.

Thanks everyone. I feel really in a funk about it. She should have never been produced, honestly. I learned a valuable ethics lesson the day I took her in. Thank you all for the kind words.
