Yesterday I lost my beloved corn snake, Oakatee. It was beyond surreal...I was literally posting about him in another thread about corn snakes when I heard him making a weird noise in his enclosure. He tends to make a lot of noise right before he sheds or poops, so I wasn't too concerned, but when I checked on him he was belly-up and breathing heavy. All that noise I heard was his death throes, I suspect. I very gently picked him up, put him in a pillow case, and brought him to the vet to be euthanized.

I knew that he was getting older, and he had been slowing down for a few years now, but I was not mentally prepared at all to lose him, and certainly not so suddenly and traumatically. I suspect that he had a heart attack or something similar to go downhill so fast.

He was over 16 years old, he would have been 17 in October. I got him on my 7th birthday and he has always been there for everything. Although I have lost reptiles before, he was my first reptile, and it really hurts to lose him. He's been there for all the major ups and downs of my life, and I will miss him terribly

My dear, sweet Oakatee, you gave me the reptile bug early and made me realize my true calling in life is to be an exotics veterinarian. You meant more to me than you could ever imagine. I will miss you.

I'm so sorry for your loss... I too recently lost my first Reptile, which happened to be a Ball Python.... It takes some time, but it does get easier.

Rest in peace, Oakatee. I'm so sorry that you lost him, especially because he was your first reptile. I feel you. He's in a better place now, though.
