  • Rest in peace, my Gentle Girl

My dog of fourteen years, Shavva, passed away a few months ago. I am just now (almost) getting to the point where I can post something without falling apart all over again. It was at least over reasonably quickly - within a week - and I know she's up there waiting for me. I was there and I held her while she passed, and even then, it felt like she was the one telling me that it would be alright.

Even after a two months, my brain still acts like she's here - putting the food up on the counter, leaving the door to the back yard open behind me, almost calling out to her when I come home. I guess it's because she's still around, looking out for me.

    Miss you, Shavva-doo.

She was an absolutely beautiful dog. I'm so sorry for your loss. 14 years is a good long time to share with such a good friend and companion.

Those are lovely memorable photos. Always difficult to lose our canine and other
animal companions. She had nice years with you! Warm regards on her passing.

Loosing a pet can be seriously hard, it took me months to get used to not having my dog around, the same thing even with one of my bearded dragons. We are creatures of habit and it takes us a long time to change. We are also creatures of great feeling and it takes a long time to heal. My deepest well wishes to you.

Thanks guys. We still have my husband's dog, and we're looking at getting another one this coming weekend - I'm honestly a little nervous that it'll like him more than me (we babysat one that liked me more than him, and had previously tried adopting one that hated me a few months ago). I know it's a really silly thing to be nervous about, I think I just miss the 'you're-my-best-friend' love that Shavva had for me.
