  • R.I.P. My Trio

    Hey everybody,

I just started coming back on chat and posting on Pangea after the months of..well...not knowing.

First it was Mia. I just woke up one day to the sound of gurgling, and I looked in her cage to see half-digested gecko diet all over the floor of the cage. I picked her up and tried to make her better, put gecko diet on her lips, make her drink water, but she just threw everything back up. After a couple of hours, she started having massive seizures and a couple of minutes after the last one while she was still trying to compose herself, I watched her take her last breath in my hand. It is a moment I will never forget, I was stroking her back like I always do when I want her to calm down and...she stopped moving and her pupils widened. That was it. I'm going to miss her so much, she was such a sweetheart. She was always so personable, she would sit on the couch with me and watch T.V. for a few hours at a time...she loved to play with her younger boyfriend Shirako who wasn't ready to mate yet. She never minded when strangers or kids touched her or handled her roughly...she was a tough little cookie. I wanted her to be there with me all these years when I go through college and everything. When I found out about that long lifespan...I guess I just never thought that she could die. But when she took that last breath in my bet it was the most horrible moment in my life.

Next, it was Shirako. It was about two weeks after Mia had died, and I saw that he missed her because they would always stare at each other through the glass at night and he would sit there waiting on his rock by his food dish all day and all night waiting. I woke up one morning to find him sprawled out on his rock where he waited...and when I opened the cage up he got up and sprinted as fast as he could around the cage a couple of times and jumped out onto my desk, where he stayed. When I looked at him, he was barely breathing and I knew that the only thing I could do was make him comfortable. I stayed up with him until 4 AM the next morning, just stroking his back like he loved me to do until he peacefully passed away in the night. I raised this gecko from his second week of living...he gave me the first sense of raising something from a baby to an adult. When he died, he had just turned 1 1/2 years old. He was also my first gecko, what started my obsession with reptiles of any sort and I was blessed to have him in my life as well as the other two.

Last came Chester. I knew this was going to happen at some time because he was a rescue from a pet store near here that kept him in a desert cage...MBD, severe dehydration, malnutrition, stuck sheds on every foot...I was just waiting for him to pass on. Lucky for him, I rescued him, and I took care of him for a little over a year before his MBD finally won his battle.

I buried all of them under a willow tree deep inside the woods in our backyard. Mia loved the willow tree when I brought her with me one day, so I figured it was the best spot for them to be buried. I loved all of my little guys to death...I never thought that they could be gone, but now that they are, I feel somewhat empty inside. God knows I'll never be able to fill that gap in my heart where they were.

R.I.P. Shirako, Mia, and Chester. You guys will be missed. Wait for me at the Rainbow Bridge, I promise I will bring more crickets!

-Shirako when I first got him, he was so curious.-

    Chester's First Day

And my favorite little sweetheart, Mia...she will be missed the most of all. R.I.P. Sweet Baby.

She was such a happy little gecko...

And two of my favorite pictures of all:

I hope you too are together, wherever you are. I know you two loved each other very much and I hope you are happy up there. I love you guys so much.
