  • Absolute Disaster.

Well, we have had a great start to the holiday season.

My home burnt down a little under a month ago. Luckily, internet access is easy from my grandmother's home. She was kind enough to allow us to move in while we find something new to buy/live in.

The worst part? My babies are gone. All of them.

I dont have photos of them all on this computer. But I had 2 adults, 2 semi-adults, and 3 juvies. Two of which were runted(one blind and runty.)

I also lost 4 fishtanks, 2 leopards, and one cockatiel.

RIP sweet babies. I miss you.

My nine year old's class has talked so much about fire safety and emergency preparedness that she saw to it that we put a plan in place to evacuate our geckos quickly in the event of an emergency. We had a trial run a few weeks ago when tornadoes struck our area and we had to quickly take shelter in our basement. Luckily, we weren't hit but it did help us identify a couple of weak areas in our plan so now we are better prepared for future emergencies. However, the sad truth is that not every tragedy can be prevented.

I am so sorry for the loss of your geckos and other animals, your home, your belongings... thank goodness no human lives were lost (I hope). I wish you luck as you pull your life back together, and I hope that this post motivates everyone to get prepared for emergencies because they can and do happen when you least expect it. (((HUGS)))

                  Thanks guys.

I definitely should have had an emergency plan. In this case, it wouldnt have done much considering that it happened when we were on vacation. Luckily, our dogs were at a kennel for the weekend while we were on vacation.

Oh Kendra, this is horrible to hear. I am very very sorry for your losses. It is so hard, and to lose so many at once over something out of your control is just heartbreaking. RIP, sweet animal friends.

It's been rough, thats for sure.

It took me a bit to decide whether I even wanted to get another gecko, but I think I might be ready to bring a little guy in again.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. I think I might be holding off on the gecko until it warms up and I have enough funds after replacement of personal items.

Where are you located (roughly?) I have a suspicion there are plenty of us here who'd love to send you a gecko to help ease the hurt a little. It's a little cold for shipping in most of the states right now, but...
