  • Merrimack Just Died

Is it horrible to say I'm relieved?
I've been posting things for a while now worrying about him because he wouldn't eat. I tried hand feeding him every day for months now and he refused to eat even a bite. He had wasted away to almost nothing. It was horrifying to look at him in the shape he was in, and if I hadn't held out hope to the very end that he would recover I probably would have put him out of his misery a while ago. I took him out to try and feed him and when I picked him up he died.
I have never had this problem with a gecko before, it was pretty devastating to have one that I was unable to nurse back to health. He was quite young when I got him and he had some genetic deformities (missing toes) and so I think whatever was wrong with him was something he was born with and he probably just wasn't meant to live. Its still hard though.
    Merrimack you will be missed.

    ....He's not dead.
I had put him in a small container to make sure he was dead and this morning he was in a different place, and now you can see slight signs of a pulse (which you couldn't before). He will still probably die within the next few days, he is in such bad shape, but I feel a little bad prematurely announcing his death.

Why don't you bring him to a vet?

I did bring him to the vet about a month ago, but the vet didn't know what was wrong and he's only 2 grams so there wasn't much the vet could do for him

I'm so sorry you're having problems with your little one.

Has he been drinking at all??? Maybe some Pedialyte would help him over the hump till you can get more food into him.

                Taloan-

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Unfortunately, some of our little ones just aren't meant to make it.

You tried your best, and I'm sure he knows it and loves you so much for trying to help him. Don't beat yourself up for something that was out of your hands.

Your little Merrimack is at Peace now.

                Beyond The Rainbow

As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,
I was so very tired and knew my time on earth would fade.
                I saw a wonderous image then of a place that's trouble-free
Where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.

I saw the most beautiful Rainbow, and on the other side
Were meadows rich and beautiful -- lush and green and wide!
And running through the meadows as far as the eye could see
Were animals of every sort as healthy as could be!
My own tired, failing body was fresh and healed and new
And I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do.

I needed to reach out to you, to tell you I'm alright
That this place is truly wonderful, then a bright Glow pierced the night.
'Twas the Glow of many Candles shining bright and strong and bold
And I knew then that it held your love in its brilliant shades of gold.

For although we may not be together in the way we used to be,
We are still connected by a cord that no eye can see.
So whenever you need to find me, we're never far apart
If you look beyond the Rainbow and listen with your heart.

                RIP, Merrimack!!
Wait for Taloan at The Bridge...

Thank you. He's the first crestie I've had that died. (I had one go missing when a friend was house sitting for me and it was never found again, but this definitely feels different.)
