  • RIP little one

To make my already bad day go worse, I find that the clutch egg that I had believed to have been a dud (previous experience) had actually hatched out with the "missing" hatchling that I had posted about in late October. Looks like it passed either a day or two ago, because the eyes are only now starting to sink all the way in with decay. A beautiful dark partial pin, like it's clutch mate. This is just incredibly frustrating, that I searched everywhere for one, but didn't think to keep the search on for a second baby. The fact that it's been in my room doesn't help either, I'm not sure how it could have stayed hidden for so long, when I naturally look for things out of place anyway. I feel so horrible to know that I could have saved it had I seen it sooner. So rip little baby, I'm sorry that you had to endure such a prolonged death.

I'll refrain from posting pics. I'm not sure I can look at them right now.

        Katie-

I'm so sorry for your loss!!

There's no way to know this little one would have hatched!!

Unfortunately, we can't see into those fragile little eggs to know what's happening. But maybe that's a GOOD thing. Can you imagine how heart-breaking it would be to look inside and find tiny little geckos who were still-born-or even worse-deformed??? And knowing there's not a blessed thing we could do??

If every single crestie egg hatched-all over the world-we'd be over-run with cresties!!!

Now-I'll admit that's preferable to be over-run with Norway rats or something really dangerous, but pretty soon, other species who eat fruit and insects would suffer.

Even though we can't see it, there's a rhyme and reason to each birth and death...even when it seems unfair or sad.

You were not the "hand of death" for this baby. He or she is in bigger and wiser hands than ours. Sometimes, no matter how hard we try to be the best animal mom or dad we can be, it's all taken out of our hands.

        Hugs-
        Donna

        Gone But Not Forgotten

Don't think of her as gone away
        Her journey's just begun
        Life holds so many facets
        This earth is only one
Just think of her as resting
From the sorrows and the tears
In a place of warmth and comfort
Where there are no days and years
Think how she must be wishing
        That we could know, today
        How nothing but our sadness
        Can really pass away
And think of her as living
In the hearts of those she touched
For nothing loved is ever lost
And she is loved so very much.

Thanks samantha, unfortunately this baby was alive and roaming my room just like my hatchling Latte had. I just didn't know to search for it too. I would have preferred to have had a still born, I've had that happen before. Its just incredibly hard to know that there WAS a very good chance that this one would have lived, had I known to look for it. It's all the "what ifs" that are really quite depressing.
