  • New from Lexington, Kentucky

I'm just a new member, I'm going to lurk for awhile to soak in all the Crestie knowledge that seeps through the pores of the Pangea forum! I've been reading for about a week actually, I hope that doesn't creep anyone out

Hello, my name is Shannon... and I have an addiction to lizards, well really all animals :lol. Currently I only have one lizard- a Blue Tongue Skink named Darwin, he's my first lizard. I blame growing up in Florida with all those native Bahaman Anoles for the lizard addiction I have... We also have three Eastern Box Turtles in the family, as well as three horses (all black, and all TN Walking Horses), two dogs (a Border Collie and a Jack Russell), four cats, four Bettas, two Cockatiels, and a hamster. I sound like an animal hoarder, but I swear I'm not! My husband, daughter 12, and I just all adore critters and we often end up with rescues who need us.

I work in a big box chain store which sounds like crap, but it's not so bad because I take care of the Pet dept exclusively (and it's not Walmart, thank goodness!). I do most of the stock work, and take care of the fish- all 675 gallons of them! I do enjoy helping customers with their needs and I hope I've saved a lot of goldfish from living horrible, stunted, and short lives in tiny little fishbowls with my advice.

I'm kinda an animal nerd and enjoy learning about them all, often spending my lunch break using my smart phone to geek out on fish varieties, turtle care, or Crested Geckos (my new obsession!). I am looking to add a Crestie or two to the family eventually so I'm in my learning process now in order to help me get everything in place before I end up with one (or two!). I will be slowly setting up a habitat until I'm able to hit up a reptile expo and hopefully find a Crestie who I fancy there. I can't make an expo until the November show in Lexington, though

In my free time, I ride and train our horses. My personal horse, Sully, is learning trail obstacles and we have recently started doing that competitively. I also love to take my dogs to the dog park for play time and socialization. My Border Collie loves it and really digs it when people throw tennis balls for him. I paint a bit, and I also hang with my cats, and sometimes watch tv with my lizard, a cat or two, and the dogs. I don't watch much tv, but when I do, it's usually Anthony Bourdain - No Reservations I just DVR it and occasionally have a marathon day. The lizard climbs to the back of the couch and likes to curl up in my husbands motorcycle helmet, it's so cute!

        Oh, hey! People noticed me

So I bought my first Crestie yesterday but have to wait for baby to get shipped to me! Meanwhile getting things set up here...

We're down a Betta, he was pretty old. All of them are actually and one of them is really showing his age so I don't know how long he'll last

I'm sorry for your loss. I'm so exited for you though on getting your first crestie! Get ready to get "just" 1 more, then "just" one more, then "oh, this time I mean it, I'll "just" get 1 more. etc.

About how long are your Bettas living?
I usually kind of forget that this section exists, so don't post here as much as I should.

My Bettas are all in the 2-4 year range, they were all pet store buys so figure about a year old each when I got them.

Baby's Keeper is about set-up, I just need to get some bottle caps or something for food and water and also get a hide. I have a tp roll, but might go ahead and buy a half log, too, for multiple places

I'm already worried that I will end up with more Cresties LOL

Been thinking about an aquarium in the front room, as a more socially acceptable display cage than my Green Tree python or one of the Brazilian Rainbow boas and I've always liked Bettas. Have to think about it more ...

Another great, cheap and disposable hide for cresties, are egg cartons. Yeah, it's pretty hard to just have one Crestie!

BAH... who cares about socially acceptable pets in the front room? LOL My skink and turtles are in my front room, gecko will be, too

Once our Bettas are gone, I'm done with fish for awhile. Taking care of all those tanks at work makes it harder for me to want to deal with the tanks at home... I hate for it to be that way, but it kinda is.
