  • It's all about me....

Well, at least this post is! I figure I better introduce myself now. I, like several other people, was waiting to see if I really liked this place, as I had a pretty bad experience with the forum members on repticzone. Not the gecko people- the uromastyx people. The gecko people were mostly nice but I got tired of all of the 'how do you pick a name for your gecko, please post pics' posts. I also got tired of answering the same questions about what to feed them over and over. (Not that I'm an expert, but sheesh, read a care sheet!)

So about me, my real name's Audra, pronounced 'odd-rah', so my best pal calls me 'Aud'. I live in Dallas, and am a dog trainer by profession. I own my own business, Downtown Hound, where I train dogs and have doggie daycare and grooming right outside of downtown Dallas. My hobbies are showing dogs in performance events, like obedience trials and agility, and I also mountain bike (on occasion, but not really in the mountains since there aren't any here in lovely north Texas) and SCUBA dive. (Scuba is by far my favorite). I also like taking pictures. I like to think I'm decent, but I'm no great photographer. I like going to movies, and I'm also really into music and play a little guitar here and there.

I keep reptiles as a sort of unofficial hobby, I like all animals. The cresties are actually my boyfriend's, although I do a good bit of the care, and some of the babies we're trying to hatch are promised to be mine

My critter list includes 3 dogs, a doberman, boxer, and chihuahua mix, Daniel, Tyson, and Eddie. I also have a Jenday conure, Bud, an amel cornsnake, Minerva, 2 saharan uromastyx, and so far one baby crestie that I can call my own...

Here's a pic of me and 2 of my boys, and then a pic I took on my last scuba trip.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm pretty hooked on posting in here now, so I'll be around.
My boxer might as well be a mutt- he came from some lady who had 'accidental' puppies, but I've had him for 7 years and he's my best bud and watchdog. The dobe came from a friend of mine who's been breeding for 30 years for show, and he didn't quite make the cut as a show pup so I got him as a present He's 80lbs of knucklehead.

Good to see you post up in here. Your dogs are really cute; I love boxers. I'd love to try uro's sometime too. Your business sounds fantastic and my husband would like to try agility with our Italian Greyhound in the future. Glad you like it here, it is totally addicting!

A word of advice with blue dobies- They are a diluted color gene and VERY often have skin and coat problems. In fact, I have never seen a blue, or fawn for that matter, with a truly nice doberman coat. Their hair will often be thin with dry skin that is prone to seborrhea and another condition called color dillution allopecia, and can even go bald from the condition, Blacks and red can get Follicular displaysia, but it's not nearly as common as it is with blues or fawns. For this reason you will very very rarely see one at a dog show, because most good breeders frown upon blues and fawns, and won't breed to anything that has it in it's pedigree. Here's a link with a little bit of information about CDA
                http://www.upei.ca/cidd/Diseases/der...20alopecia.htm
http://www.seattle-attorney.com/storm/sup.html This second person makes a note that all dobermans can suffer from skin issues and blues are not more likely, but that is simply not true. It would not be called color DILUTION allopecia if it did not affect only diluted color dobies, blue and fawn.
There may be a few out there that are good, I've just never seen one. If you're going to get one I suggest finding a show breeder as they're very careful about what they breed and are more likely to have good coats, since they can't show them with a bad coat. Black or red is usually the way to go. Oh, and stay away from whites all together, they're albinos (despite what any breeder tells you) and are usually photosensitive. Bit of a pain in the butt when you are a working dog, eh?
Thanks all for all the welcomes and nice compliments about Daniel. He'll be blushing for sure when I tell him!

That pic was from Nassau, Bahamas. Diving is awesome there- we were on the boat over 80ft of water and could see the bottom! Visibility is amazing. Plus the animal life is everywhere, we saw everything from spotted eagle rays to a hawksbill sea turtle, spotted eels, all kinds of parrot fish, peacock flounder, you name it. It was a blast. Some of our dive mates saw a reef shark but we missed out on that But I did get to see a lot of barracuda! Last summer was my first diving season, so I'm not all that experienced, but we have a few fresh water scuba parks around where I live that I will be frequenting this summer. It's so much fun!
Anyhow, Thanks again, I'm glad to be here!

Thanks for the heads up on blues. Also, I went snorkling in Nassau and it was really cool. Got to see baby sharks rummaging for food.

p.s. Do you know a good place to get photos of dobbies? I'd like to see the red.

reds are becoming more and more popular, and have even started to grow on me...
Here's another of my boy, Daniel, and here are a couple of links to breeders that I know

These guys breed reds and blacks exclusively.
