    I can't remember if I voted or not, so I won't cause I don't want to mess up the poll

    When I had a beardie, I got her when she was about 9 months old and kept her on washed playsand (which I've heard is the best of the sands). She was perfectly healthy on it, though now I think I would be too nervous and would likely go with paper towels or some other type of "solid" flooring. The sand was also a pain to clean.

    I ended up selling her quite a time later and no longer keep beardies.

    I kept my female berdie on walnut shells for about 10 years.From baby to adult.Perfectly fine.Ive heard of berdies chewing on news paper and dieing from that.So its just as big of a risk;

    I agree with ReptileChick. All of the particle substrates are a BIG no no. With my guys I have used the non-adhesive shelf liner and it works awesome! Super easy to clean and it doesn't look too shabby either. I've used slate tile as well but it's a little harder to clean, and seemed to absorb the smell a little more, but it looked really nice.

    textured ceramic tiles from lowes are a great way to go. You can get ones that resemble sand if you like the sand look. Their easy to clean.

    I keep mine on either paper towels or newspaper.
    But I'm thinking of adding some thing for them to dig in... I'm just to worried about impaction.

    Every substrate has it good and bad points. It's all in what works best for you. I love newspaper for the dragons. It is easy to clean, and doesn't retain smell. It looks rather ugly though. Josh

    Keep Babies on Papertowel/newspaper and then you can switch over to sand when they become adults.

    Quoting my last bit, I keep Cowboy Girl (adult female) on vinal shelf paper, it's super easy to clean, looks nice and there is no chance of impaction.

    When we had our beardies, we kept them on newspaper when they were young. Then we kept them on newspaper because they were under long-term quarantine. We always planned to put them back on sand, or at least give them a cat litter box with sand to dig in, when they got older and were no longer contagious.

    The Bearded Dragon Manual, by de Vosjoli, Mailloux, et al. from Advanced Vivarium Systems is great; if you lived closer I'd just loan it to you. We used it as our main resource and the vet always said that it was evident our husbandry was excellent. (Sad to say, the vet saw the beardies a LOT, because I bought them with resistant strains of 3 different parasites.)

    Sorry to ramble; I find beardies tremendously personable and we still miss Titan a lot. (Even Adam's TV watching, hand-eating dragon is fun!)
