  • Rija - my very first Phelsuma hatchling!

Seri mentioned her Phelsuma in chat and I remembered I hadn't checked on my eggs today, so I walked over and- sure enough, a cute little hatchling P. m. grandis was sitting in the GEO cup beside its eggshell looking up at me!

    Meet Rija-

Rija's proud parents are Amando and Adria:

Whoa look at all that red! Will he loose any of it? So frigging cute.
    Unjustifiably cute, really.
The name Stella fills me with dread.

Yeah, unfortunately they tend to lose a good percentage of the red they hatch with as they grow. IDK for sure how much to expect as this is the first time these two have been paired, but from the looks now I think this baby is going to end up with much less red than either parent?

Congrats!! Some lose a lot of red, but it's so hard to tell. Out of all my hatchlings last year I think Andi's Houdini hatched with the most red:

I think one or 2 of the others may have retained more red though.

How do you like that shorter incubation??
