  • question about my leo? worried about him

so i have my leo for about two months and hes been a great little guy. eats really well is going to the bathroom and everything. but last week i noticed his right front let was starting to shed so i thought maybe hes just starting to shed. then i noticed his arm is getting fatter then all of the others and hes not really using his hands he just walking on the arm with the hand curled back. does anyone have any idea what could be wrong with him. im really worried about it but dont have a clue what it is

could be a stuck shed restricting bloodflow, making the arm swell. id put him in a sauna to try and get the shed off. go at it with a Q tip, I've had to do this with crestie babies before. usually it gets stuck on their crests or along the side, so yours is potentially more dangerous and you should act quickly. not to sound too grim haha I'm sure he'll be fine

You may have to do several rounds of saunas to help get the stuck shed off. A picture would really help too. My first thought was MBD but if it's just affecting the one leg then it's most likely a stuck shed restricting blood flow.

Take a tupperware container slightly larger than the animal and line the bottom with several sheets of paper towels. Poke air holes in the lid. Add lukewarm water in the bottom to soak the paper towels. Put gecko in. Place in a warm spot and leave him in there for about 15-20 mins. You should start to see condensation forming on the sides of the container. Make sure you stay with the animal the whole time it's in the sauna.

Yep no problem. I've had to do this several times with my leos. I'm used to it. They won't like you much for putting them in there but I think that the little bit of grumpiness is well worth the long healthy life they'll have.

i figured its been long enough so i opened the lid to the sauna and tried to use a q tip to remove the skin but he did not like that at all and wont let me near the arm

This is good news! Now just let him be for a little while. I'm sure he's stressed after that! I would be too!

I personlly don't think its shed. Atleast in my experiance shed doesn't cause that drastic of swelling. Is it possible it broke its leg or foot? Maybe thats why it's keeping the weight off of it and possibly the reason for the swelling. Best of luck for your little guy!
