There used to be this huge wooded area near my old house were there was a decent sized pond. big enough you and a few friends could go swimming but not big enough to be a lake. There were always hundreds of toad tadpoles and leopard frog tad poles. We would catch them and set them up in a 10 gallon with a bubbler and watch them grow up. When I was about 15 they leveled it all and filled in any holes/ponds with dirt so they could build a Wal-mart. A few years later they decided the area wasn't big enough for a wal-mart and moved it to a diffrent location. so now I NEVER see any frogs. I'm doing amphibian conservation this year. Setting up terracotta pot hides and maybe a nice pond to have babys in.

I love those little toady faces. That is what I spent my childhood summers doing, catching toads in the garden. Thanks for the pictures!

Yup-our little amphibious friends are a barometer of the environment, and the more global warming, pollution and acid rain we have, and the less toads and frogs will survive, the more insects will flourish.

You remove one link in the food chain, and the rest goes nuts!
