Hi guys So its been about 2 weeks now since Fiona Layed her eggs, We used a light to check them out they are both fertile. So my question is we used vermiculite for the substrate in the incubator, we just wet it and then rung it out until no water was coming out, the temp is around 73-74 and the humidity has stays at 99, I know that seems high but we check everyday without opening the lid and make sure there is no water on the sides or on the eggs and there isnt, and when we touch the substrate it seems dry, so is this good? or should I try something else? I dont really want to move them around too much. I should mention that we have made sure that it wasnt to wet and tryed to ring it out again but absoutly no water comes out...I dont want my eggs to dry or mould over so any advice is welcome Thanks!

99% seems high to me how are you checking the humidity? doe's the prob of the humidity gage come in contact with the vermiculite? You may be getting false reading if so. If there moister on the eggs them they will mold over.

I did the exact same you did squeezing the water out of the vermiculite by hand and putting it in a tupperware dish and it worked out fairly well. I thought mine was too dry at first too, but after digging in the vermiculite a little bit i could feel the moistness of it.
I just opened it once a week and the eggs hatched out fine, so i think as long as the eggs look alright and aren't molding I think you'll be okay. | ||||

hey guys so i though an update was in order, as most of you might have already read I got two almost 4 year old females from a breeder to my understanding Fiona was the only one housed with a male at that time.... She already layed the two eggs I was asking about, my intention was to just have these gals as pets not to breed. Today I felt eggs In the other females belly so I called the breeder and found out that she was also housed with a male, but when we went they were just separated the night before... So it looks like I will soon have eggs coming out of my ears... that being said how low do the temps have to be to "cool them down" as i dont want them to keep laying as they both may have MBD as they were feed only baby food and crickets ( now just on CGD) calcium sacks are good for both but cayenne has a kinked tail and Fionas back looks a little weird. Any suggestions are welcome
Thanks guys | |||
