I heard through the grapevine that some Cresties have become infected with a highly infectious fungus of the tail. The fungus eventually leads to the dropping of the tail and may or may not have other consequences. Can anyone give me more info on this including symptoms and what to watch for? Pictures, of course, would be great but I know that is often difficult. Any info anyone can give me would be great!
I think that one of the bigger breeders has had experience with this as well as a few individuals. I am hoping someone will pop up and be able to give me some specific information. Thanks In Advance All! Erin

I'm hoping not to ever see it! But, I want to be well informed just in case it ever pops up. I do hope that someone who knows about it reads this and responds...it would be good information for everyone.
Just a thought...If one suspected that they may have a gecko with this condition, could the animal be treated with Betadine? We use it for thrush in horses and that is a fungus. It is fairly gentle on most animals. Any opinions?

Does anyone have any experience with this?
If it does exist it's important that we all know what it is and what to look for.

I haven't heard anything new but I did ask a Vet friend of mine about the betadine. She suggested using dilute Chlorhexidene if the need arose. There is, of couse, no guarantee with either but she said the dilute Chlorhexidene would make her more comfortable.

Maybe Dr. Alan can spread some insight on this topic.
