    Default Salamanders

    It's kind of a rare occurrence, but I found two (dead) young salamanders in my barn this week. I think the cats got 'em.

    Every couple of years we'll find one or two, and it's been a while. Sure would like to know where they're coming from! We're in a very dry, sandy area of east-central Wisconsin. There wasn't much of a pattern on these guys. Looked like some very faint vertical stripes on the laterals. The one I found this morning, I think was dead, but wasn't sure. I put it in a cool shady spot under an old pallet and poured a little water on it for moisture. If it's still there tonight I'll try to get a picture.

    Well, the 2nd one was gone when I got home last night, so either he revived and took off, or something else got him.
