Usually you don't need a heat mat. They need to stay around 75F, and no warmer than 80F

I have heatmats and have them going during the day and turn them off at night -the temp would naturally drop at night and cresties can cope with lower temps overnight. Now its getting warmer my house is around 22C so I don't really need them on but they provide warmer areas if my lil chub wants to be warmer, and I like him to have that choice. Just make sure your heat mats don't get too hot -I've got two exo terra ones stuck to the outside of the glass and have hot glued chunky bamboo to the inside so my gecko can't get too hot/ burned. It makes the temp on the inside over the heatmats around 24C - 26C (I have one small rainforest heat mat and an extra small desert one for 2 different temps) so it works quite well Sorry this is quite long! I hope it helps

What you were told is correct, I do a heavy spray at night and then a light spray in the morning. I tend to get it to around 75-80% humidity at night and have it at around 60% humidity during the day. Where I live tends to be fairly humid so sometimes in the morning it'll already be around 60% and I won't spray it.
