    Default New PI Hatchling

Today I went to the Phoenix reptile show hoping to find a female PI to put with my male PI. My male is big--yesterday I weighed him and the tip of his tail was resting on the counter, not on the scale, and he weighed 55 grams. This morning I put a tape measure against the glass while he was on the side and he was 11 1/2 inches from the tip of his nose to the end of his tail. He's two years old. The only PI female that I found at the show was a hatchling and she did not appeal to me, she was very light and didn't have the nice contrasting patches that I like so I passed on her. There was also a PI hatchling at the same table that I really liked. We tried looking for pores, but at 7 grams, it's too small to sex and we couldn't see anything. I kept walking around debating on getting it, and, well, you know the rest of the story. I love the way this one's face is marked.

Think pink, everybody! Here is Cami:

Gotagecko, Cami looks awesome. Fingers crossed its a girl and gets big! You should take some pictures outside in natural light, I'd love to see the pinky peach colours.

Thank you. I'm pretty happy with this hatchling.

The thought of taking a gecko outside for a photo shoot scares me, because I don't want to chance its getting startled and losing it. I know other people do it, it's just not something I feel comfortable doing. Here are a few pictures of her fired down. You can see her face mask. It really pops when she fires up. I told her you wanted to see her picture, and, as you can see, she smiled for the camera. She's gained a gram and is up to 8 grams, and really loves her crickets.

Sticking on the Ledge, it sounds like there were several of us there.

The little chahoua has been growing quickly, and today I used a scale that measures to the tenth of a gram. Current weight = 12.1 grams. I decided to try to get a good picture of the gecko's underside to check for pores. This gecko has a serious case of the wigglies and I'm not a good photographer to start with. Out of 30-40 pictures, these are the best two. What do you think? Boy or girl? Fingers crossed here for a girl. The gecko decided to empty its cloacal contents on me, and you can see a bit if that in the pictures. I'm guessing it had enough of being held upside down with a deli cup lid against its you-know-where.

She just weighed in at 17.1 grams and still no bulge. I can't see any pores, but am not that great at spotting them. Fingers crossed for a girl.

Great growth rate! The pictures aren't quite clear enough to see if there are pores.

My photography skills aren't very good, but I gave it another try. Out of a lot of pictures of a very wiggly chahoua, this one is the clearest. Unfortunately, it's also the one where I have a bit of chewie poo on my finger. I know where to look and what pores look like, but have trouble seeing small details, even with reading glasses. She's growing fast. You should see her appetite! I adjusted the darkness and contrast of the picture to make it as clear as possible.
