    Default RIP Apollo :(

I'm not too active on these boards anymore but I need some advice.

My 2 year old male crested gecko had an anal prolapse 2 days ago. His hemipenes were intact but the prolapse was quite large. I believe he ate a small snail that was brought in on a piece of driftwood probably. He probably got impacted and prolapsed trying to pass the blockage. By the time I found him it had probably been 10 hours and the prolapse was dry and dark brown in color.

Took him to the vet yesterday morning and had him evaluated after I gave him a sugar water bath and applied a tad bit of honey. The vet recommended an enema but I think that made the problem worse. He went downhill after that. Woke up today and he was gone. My question is this. How do I clean the tank and make it ready for a new gecko? Bleach? Vinegar? I want to tear it down and re-do it completely. New soil, new plants, new light.

Apollo will never be replaced. I had him for two fantastic years and he never once bit or even threatened me. He was taken away far too young.

In loving memory my dear. I hope your pain is over. Momma will miss you.
