How very odd for this topic to come up... I have been out of snakes for awhile and have been trying to decide to get a western hog, or try something new with a ksb. Doing some research earlier today on the boas i came across a great site with the following info...

Most species of Eryx either live areas that are only partially sandy. The data from the field suggest that many of them spend significant time hiding in burrows of other animals, rather than burrowed in sand. Therefore, the name "sand" boa is misleading for most of the species. Yes, they will burrow in sand if you give it to them, but so will most kingsnakes!
That quote comes from This page on sandboa care and housing.
