Yeah, whatever you do don't buy a Colombian or "gold" tegu. (Unscrupulous vendors may try to tell you that they are different species, but they are not.)

Buy a red, blue, or (most common) an Argentine Black and White tegu. These are larger, smarter, and can be tamed much easier than Colombian tegus, most of whom never get easy to handle compared to the others.

Do you already know someone you're going to buy from, or are you just going to look when you get there?

Are the blues true to their name with blue coloration? I don't know much about large lizards. The tegus are much more attractive than monitors in my opinion.

Ummmm, I'm really not sure. I know they get at least bluish. I've never seen one, just heard them referenced in a project to crossbreed blue and red tegus to combat the "sensitive skin" issues the reds sometimes have. I really like the few tegus I've met. There's a red Tegu named Rosy that boards at the local pet store when his owner is on vacation, and he's an ultra sweetheart.

    This one's kind of blue.

This is one of the red x blue crosses. I guess Ron St. Pierre's site is where I first saw them.

I just googled them and found that website . I didn't know that reds had skin problems and I also didn't know that Argentine B&W's have some of the bests temperments. Learn something new every day.
