Default Question about number of posts

I check the "new posts" just about every day. After months of there being 80-100 posts a day with 25 posts to a page, suddenly there are 35 posts (always 35, except one day with 33), 10 to a page. I get the same results when I go to "quick links" and access "today's posts". The oldest post in this list is just 5 hours old. Why don't the rest of the posts that are new since my last visit show up? I don't recall changing any of the settings.

It's a performance setting that we adjusted on the backend. If it's a problem for people we can adjust it.

I usually only get on the forums once a day, and sometimes not even that often, and I've noticed the same thing. I'm quite sure that I've been missing quite a few posts when I hit "New Posts" which is my normal routine. I know I could wade through the individual subforums, but that would be more time consuming, and extra time is hard to come by.

    OK here is the problem.

If I allow unlimited past post history it will also allow unlimited search results. These two are tied together somehow in the code. Doing this is going to make the search feature slow way down because it is going to return unlimited results.

How does 500 new posts sound? That should give you a few days of posts to look through. Let me know.

    Thanks - Matt

Scratch that, setting it to 500 still only allows the system to return 24 hours worth of new posts.

Was it ever at any point showing more than 24 hours worth of posts?

If I were gone for a weekend and logged in, it would show me 4-5 pages of 25 thread results on each page, which I -think- is usually past what we see here in 1 day.

Yeah right now it is showing the past 24 hours which is 4 pages of 25 posts/page. Seems about right.
