The only thing to watch with dollar store plants (and really any) is that they don't have perfumes and also that their colors don't leak when wet. I got a bunch of fall leaves for $0.25 each on sale, but then when I tried setting up a tank they turned the paper towel orange.

You can DIY most things we use commonly for reptile friends. I make my own vines, hides/layboxes, ledges, faux stone food/water holders &/or feeding ledges. I also buy most of my plants from craft stores (usually Hobby Lobby or Michaels & I stock up during their 50% off sales- which are held quite often).

Just a warning on vetilation and dollar tree plants, I did my first DIY tub and did not do enough ventialtion and the plants grew mold after a few days of misting. No clue why besides ventilation, they had been washed and cleaned, but after I changed the amount of ventilation and put in new plants, everything was ok. So do some test tanks for higher humidity herps so you dont expose to mold.

Pet stores/reptile shows have great deals on supplies and equipment/enclosures when you hit a sale. You can do so many things with less expensive materials as well.
Here, I show how to make a VERY inexpensive enclosure-
