Default Hello, new the the forum and geckos!

    Hello, I'm Pinky.
I've loved and kept reptiles since before I was in school, much to my mothers annoyance, and my step dads disapproval (I guess they wanted a more feminine daughter XD), fortunately my dad was much more accepting, when I was living with him I always had something cool in the many aquariums he had saved for me.

I currently have 7 snakes, various colubrids, boas and a python, but I'm getting my first trio of geckos hopefully next week, weather permitting.

This is the setup I have for them, I really think they will love it, and yes, I'm getting more vines and things on my next off day before they arrive =3

    Welcome to Pangea!

What is that you're using for substrate?

I'd ditch the analog thermometer/humidity gauge. They're usually really inaccurate. You can get a cheap digital one at Walmart in the Garden Center

Thanks! I'll see about that next time I'm there =3

It's a fir bark mix, made for reptiles over chemical free garden soil x coco fiber mix.

Couldn't find a reasonably priced temp/humidity gauge today, but I did find an awesome piece of branch, so into the tank it went. =3
I think I ought to have enough perches now.

Hi Pinky! Your tank looks great. What type of geckos are you getting? If they'll be eating insects, you have to be careful with bark in the substrate. Geckos kind of lunge at their prey, and can swallow bits of bark.

Welcome to Pangea, you'll like it here!

    Welcome to Pangea!

    That's a beautiful setup!

However, if you're open to a little constructive criticism... are you purchasing an adult trio, or hatchlings?

If an adult trio- that setup should be fine, though I would add some more branches to climb on and some elevated foliage and sleeping hides if possible.

If you're getting hatchlings or juvies, juveniles should be kept separate until the sexes are confirmable, and keep a close eye on hatchlings to make sure they're finding their food and eating. Personally, I prefer to keep hatchlings in small kritter keepers on paper towels as this is easiet to clean, monitor for eating/poop, and to observe them for stuck shed.

Females of the same size/weight would be a good choice for your tank, but multiple males would not, and you should not mix genders with juveniles as males are prone to try and breed females prematurely- which is extremely bad for the females.

So just some things to think through!

They are unsexed juvies of the same age, but I have heard that at 3 months they would be fine in a setup like this.

This is the book I got my info from, is it inaccurate? I have always had good luck with this authors books in the past.

But yes I have 2 spare tanks I can set up for anyone who doesn't get along or doesn't seem to be thriving. and if those are too big I have plenty of 6qt sterilites, I could use =3

Well I got them this morning, and they seem to be doing well, I turned off the plant lights for the day so they can get some rest, and relax a bit, I imagine being shipped can't be fun.

    Gecko #1
this little guy was ready to go for it as soon as I opened the cup, catching these guys is easier then anoles or skinks at least lol

This one is much more chill, I like it the best so far =3

I'm not sure if they are flames or herleys though, either way I adore these two =3

and this is the lone tiger, a very curious little one for sure, though still cautious, he seems to have the best expressions when he's eying things lol

They are all between 3-4", so a tad smaller then I expected, but no biggie, and were very active when I got them, they all found nice secure places to hide pretty quickly though lol

If they seem to have a hard time finding their food ( I showed them all where it was though when I put them in, I'm not sure if that would help them but it couldn't hurt) I will move them to the 6qt tubs.
