    Default Moving Tips

So I was wondering if anyone had any moving tips with moving Crested Geckos and Leopard Geckos. I'm going to be moving shortly, probably within the month possibly, and this was an unexpected move. Plus this will be the first time I will be moving, and I will be moving to an efficiency apartment. I have one picked out and veiwing another one saturday. The one already said it was okay for me to have my reptiles just no cats or dogs, so my cats will be staying with my parents till I can afford a bigger apartment that allows pets.

So overall I'm just curious on the whole trying to move everyone. It's only a twenty minute move, but I have some gravid females and some leopard gecko eggs in an incubator and I'm more worried about them. Also with it being an efficiency apartment I was wondering if anyone had some space saving tips when it comes to their reptiles. Like what type of bookcase do you use, or cages etc. Currently I have some glass aquariums and sterilite bins of appropriate size for weight/size of each gecko. I will probably look for a good size breeder tank for my cresties because I currently do not have one, that way all of my females can be together to save space. (If you want to know amounts of reptile just look at my signature, everyone except for my leopard gecko harem is housed separatly, in their own cages unless breeding).

Any tips would be great thanks!

I don't really have any tips because I've never had to move around with reptiles, but the one tip I can think of is to move all your 'stuff' first, then come back for your reptiles when you're more settled, especially since the move is only 20 minutes away.

I would also recommend taking your floor plan and measuring all your stuff, reptile cages, etc so you know exactly where everybody will be placed before you move them. That way they're not moved to your apartment, then jostled around while you figure out where they go best.

    Good luck!
May you take time to celebrate the quiet miracles that seek no attention.

What I would do, since the new place is so close, is first move all the geckos in to deli cups with damp paper towels. Then put the cups in a well-padded cardboard box. The darkness will keep them calmer, and then you can just grab the box and go when it is time. Next I would move all of the enclosures to the new place and get them set up. Remove anything that might crack/chip the glass, but otherwise I'd leave the decor in. Then I'd take the geckos & any eggs over, I'd recommend having a friend to hold the container you keep the eggs in. Try to keep the temps between the old house, car, & new apartment as close as possible, for the sake of the eggs. Then just put everyone back in their homes.

It might take a few hours, but overall it sounds like it should go pretty smoothly, since it's a short move. The geckos will experience minimal stress, since their enclosures will still be exactly the same, but it wouldn't be abnormal for them to skip a few meals while they recover from the move.

Thanks everyone. Where my gecko cages are hosted is on two bookcase, both of which will fit in the apartment. I start moving tomorrow but the reptiles will be staying back a couple of days (i will be too of course because my bed won't be there either lol) I have a ton to do these coming weeks. Plus I have to Hook the ac up at the apartment before anything, or I won't even be able to live there.
