Default How to candle an egg?

Yep, stupid newb question. Oh well.

I tried to candle my first crested gecko's first egg, but with a large flashlight. The light wasn't intense enough to see anything... So how do you candle an egg?
If it helps, the egg was found July 1st in perfect condition except for a small dent, which smoothed out the next day. The egg looks absolutely perfect to me.

I use a strong LED style flashlight, either a penlight or one 6" long. LED helps a lot over regular incandescent. If the beam is too wide to help, you can cover part of it with black paper, tape, whatever you have on hand.

Get a small LED flashlight, those work really well. You can also use a larger flashlight if you cover it with dark paper with a small hole so the light only comes out of a small part. If light comes out around the egg (from using a flashlight that is too big) it is very difficult to see.

Okay I used the LED light on my dad's iPhone... And all I can see is a vein. Is that bad?

Really can't tell without seeing a pic. If it were fertile and only a few days old, you should see a circle/oval.
