Default How long have they held out for you?

    Hi All,

I'm breeding 2 virgins this year. I put them in on St. patty's day and took her out 5 days later. No eggs yet. Last year, I bred a pair that had mated the prior year and did pretty well. She laid her 1st clutch after 45 days.

I was reading up on the search I did about how long it would take a 1st time girl to lay. I heard 45 days to 3 months.

I was wondering how accurate those numbers were and what people's past experiences were? Just curious, if she doesn't end up laying at all, that's fine.

    Thanks!

Oh and in case anyone is wondering, the male had no issues figuring out what time of the year it was.

Most of my virgin girls have been running 45-60 days this year.

It really depends on the temperatures you're keeping them at. Even my star breeding females slow down and take a longer time to drop a clutch at lower temperatures. My old apartment was pretty cool, and it took about 2 - 3 months for them to lay anything.

I have a pair I put together around Valentines Day that hasn't laid yet. She did lay dud eggs right before I paired them, though. Otherwise, my other pairs, introduced about a month later, have laid. I think it's very individual and dependent on the cycle of the female.

Pairs I have introduced in the winter months historically have taken longer and had irregular laying patterns.
