Leo is light sensitive?

We have a Leo I'm looking at possibly adopting from work-he can't eat with the lights on at all. If you take him out he does this:



But if you turn out the light or dim the light he has zero trouble hunting or climbing. He just can't see in regular room lighting. Has anyone heard of a gecko being sensitive to light?

There is no stuck shed or gunk in his eyes either. Clear as ever.

No idea what morph this is either, in case anyone might want to tell me

Many albino leopard geckos have at least a little light sensitivity. Even some normal leopard geckos I've had have been sensitive to light. This is why I generally try to provide as much hiding options as possible for them, and try to keep day handling and feeding to a minimum.

Ok. I have just been lucky enough not to see it in geckos until now I guess. I hadn't read or heard about it but with them being nocturnal and with us breeding them certain ways it makes sense. He's a sweetie either way, I hope I end up with him. <3

Most nocturnal geckos would rather not be in bright light. It's more obvious in leos because they have eyelids to close. There's no reason why it should have to eat during daytime hours.

Said perfectly. It's a Noctural Gecko. My Diablo Blanco, is more sensitive then the others.

That's why I was referring it to the breeding aspect. I've kept regular plain Leo's for years and have never seen one that actually squinted in regular lighting. So it seemed really odd to me, but it makes sense. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't an underlying problem that would require a vet trip. Thanks for all your answers I was worried he was a problem gecko. now I know he's just sensitive.
