That temperature is fine, plus with summer coming up I am sure it will warm up a few degrees. Alot of reptiles do needs heat, so maybe that's why your dad thinks that, but these guys thrive in room temp. I once got into an arguement with a guy that worked at a petstore IN the reptile department because he swore tha ALL geckos, including crested geckos needed heat lamps. GAH! I hope people he has sold to arent cooking their cresties because they listened to that moron! haha If you get a light, I would suggest a uvb TROPICAL (NOT dessert) as it doesnt let out any heat but does help with live plants & is good for a day/night schedule, but like I said, it's really not needed.

DONT LISTEN TO HIM!!!!! TURTLES aren't the SAME!!!! No offense, but please don't listen to your parents about your gecko. They haven't done tons of research like you have. So NO HEAT LAMP!!!! The heat is fine. Maybe a degree or 2 might be a little nicer, but nothing much, a heat lamp will boost the temp to almost a 100 degrees which will kill your gecko. Any thing over 80-85 degrees will kill your gecko eventually by just cooking it.

    Hope we helped,

You also don't have to keep your house very dark. I put a standard house lamp near my viv to give a few extra degrees.
