    Default Laybox Substrate

I have seen a few people on here with pictures of their aquariums including layboxes and I see a few people use some really fine topsoil like black dirt.

i have some really fine top soil and by fine i mean very soft and tiny particles smaller than sand. smells like really good fresh dirt and i got it for potted plants awhile back, particularly herbs.

i was wondering if i could use this topsoil mix for my laybox?

Spagnum peat moss or vermiculite are good mediums for lay boxes. Topsoil may be ok as long as there are no chemicals or fertilizers in it. However, I think when you moisten top soil it may be too heavy to the females liking.

I have used both spagnum peat moss and vermiculite successfully. Different females like different things in my house.
