The black silicone allows for far greater adhesion of glues and foams to the walls of he tank. It also makes for a nice visual experience from the outside of he tank, as it hides all of he stuff that you want to keep "behind he scenes". Another method I recently heard, was to use black contact paper along the outside walls of he tank. This still blocks out all the things you want to hide, but would also make it so you don't have to hide any of the silicone that you applied to provide improved adhesion. I'll be using contact paper for my next viv.

In response to my last post, I now highly advise using black contact paper on the outside of any gecko tank, but especially a naturalistic terrarium. I've found that blacking out at least 2 walls on my plastic tanks has made my geckos much more calm. I think they feel safer. Also, the contact paper covers up all of the behind the scenes stuff in a DIY tank.

Wow this is pretty amazing. I'd love to do something like this, I just would have no idea where to start! I'm really looking forward to your dart frog progression viv. Would love to see the more step by step, so I could possibly make something similar.

I can get pictures of my new tank soon. However, I decided against dart frogs, and simply made it a new home for my male crested gecko. I'll try to make up for the lack of pictures by giving a detailed description. If you, or anyone else, have questions before then, ask away.

Also, does anyone have any pointers on drilling holes in glass? I know a store at home that will cut it for me, but they don't drill glass. I want my fogger to enter through the glass top, and not just be siliconed onto the screen.

I have another tip for anyone who ever chooses to make a background like I have in this tank. Just don't. Stuffing moss between pieces of cork bark may work well for dart frogs, but not for crested geckos. The humidity in a crested gecko tank is not high enough, or the tank wet enough, overall, to keep the moss in place. Also, the geckos are big enough to rip it out just by crawling on it. I like the look of it, but it's not practical. I fixed this problem in my second build.

I got 3 broms today and planted them. This required some maneuvering of a cutting and the brom pup, as well as the removal of 2 sickly air plants (part of the reason I got the broms to begin with). They are way bigger than I thought they'd be, but I made it work. I followed the suggestion of many members over at Dendroboard.com and trimmed off all of the roots on the plants. It felt very strange to me, but it's supposed to spur the growth of new roots that will attach the plant to whatever spot you place them. I also used 2" nails (poked into the background) to support the plants until that time.

Here's the new placement of the brom pup in Chester's 18x18x18.

Here's a shot showing both new broms.

Neo Winnie The Pooh. I had to get this one due to the name.

I know my multiple posts are annoying, but I'd rather not have multiple posts going.

The brom in Chester's 18x18x18 has been blooming for several days, and will keep going for a few more. I think it looks awesome, so I thought I share.
