Default PETA to Launch Porn Site in Name of Animal Rights

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, no stranger to attention-grabbing campaigns featuring nude women, plans to launch a pornography website in the name of animal rights.
The non-profit organisation, whose controversial campaigns draw criticism from women's rights groups, said it hopes to raise awareness of veganism through a mix of pornography and graphic footage of animal suffering.

    [...]

PETA has filed paperwork to launch its pornography site when the controversial new .xxx domain becomes active in early December. While many non-profits and corporations are scrambling to protect their website names from being hijacked by a pornographer slapping on a .xxx domain, PETA is embracing the new domain as just another way to conduct business.
"We try to use every outlet that we can to speak up for animals," Rajt said. "We anticipated that this new triple-X domain name would be a hot topic and we immediately decided to use it and take advantage of it to try to promote the animal rights message."

    [...]

Visitors to the X-rated site will initially be presented with pornographic content as well as images from PETA's salacious ads and campaigns, Rajt said. Those images will be followed by pictures and video shot undercover of the mistreatment of animals. The site will also include links to vegetarian and vegan - using no animal products - starter kits as well as recipes.
PETA's ad campaigns have featured adult film stars Sasha Grey, Ron Jeremy and Jenna Jameson. In 2008, the organisation's YouTube account was temporarily shut down after showing racy videos of celebrities and others posing nude.
"When people first visit the site, it will be very enticing and once they go just a little bit deeper, that's when they'll be confronted with images that we hope will make them stop and think and get them talking and hopefully encourage them to make a lifestyle change to a plant-based diet," Rajt said.

Am I the only one who thinks this was just a matter of time? Lawd. It seems like porn is right up there with 'animal rights' on their list of priorities anyway.

Well I am sure that PETP will be up in arms over this. The people for ethical treatment of plants will not take the exploitation of living plants lying down!

The mixture of sexually appealing pornography and animal abuse may be confusing to young adolescents who may stumble upon their site. Could this lead to a epidemic of Zoophilia. Or perhaps many in PETA already suffer from zoo sexuality and this is just how they are expressing their feelings to the world, lol.

The most ironic part of this marketing plan is the fact that the site may actually become a stimulus for those in the Zoo sadism group, or possibly convert the benign. Sexual stimulation, then images of animal abuse equals what? Would make for a fascinating study.

    Scary thought. And completely plausible.

They take things too far. They should focus on changing the policies of factory farms and turning them all to cage free, free range facilities. I used to be a vegetarian due to my hatred of factory farms, but that wont solve the problem. You cant force evetyone to stop eating meat. Due to health resaons I now eat meat, but I buy organic free range. The issue should be their treatment while on the farms. People have always eaten meat and always will. And it can be very hard to stay healthy on a vegetarian diet, no less a vegan diet. Vegan means nothing from animals, no cheese, no honey, no gelatin, no nothing! All I am saying is they need to be realistic and focus on real change or they will never help the animals.

All I can do is shake my head in disgust. Not surprised at all. PETA, HSUS.... they're all a bunch of crack-pots.

I agree with Dobey here -- the only people who are going to enjoy this site are going to be those who fight animal cruelty stimulating. And those people who just "ignore it" to get to the porn is going to be exposed to it anyway and after some time might then be turned on by abused animals.

Things like this happen and happen easily -- smells are a good example. If your partner uses a certain type of perfume/cologne then after a period of time of being exposed to that stimulus in the company of arousal then that smell can trigger arousal, like Pavlov's dogs.

PETA never thinks things through, they just do what will get them the headlines. =/

I hate PETA with a passion. I did a paper in them years ago in high school, a persuasive paper on how they are actually a terrorist organization. Just like terrorist, they use terror tactics to raise awareness and scare people. They dig up graves, attack people, bomb buildings, and are totally unreasonable. They ridicule the work of animal shelters for euthanizing pets, yet have a giant walk-in freezer in their main facility for the pets they themselves put to sleep.

This sickens me. And Dobey has a very accurate and very disturbing point.

    Yuck!
May you take time to celebrate the quiet miracles that seek no attention.

I also agree this will probably end up getting people weirdly turned on by animal harm o_o
