    Default Moving to Alaska...

I just found out I'm moving to Anchorage. I'm REALLY excited, but a bit nervous about my geckos. First of all, we'll be driving there from NM. We plan on getting a bigger vehicle to ease the move. Luckily, we'll be starting our journey in late April. Hopefully, the weather will be comfortable for the little guys. However, I'm not familiar with Alaska's laws. I have heard "if it can't survive in Alaska, you can't have it." This seems ridiculous.... My boxers most certainly cannot survive an Alaskan winter. In fact, my boxers would likely charge excitedly into a mother bear... If anyone can please enlighten me on laws, specifically in the Anchorage area, and if anyone has any tips for a long move please help out!

Sorry, don't know anything about Alaska's laws, but will the temps in the vehicle and at night be appropriate and safe for your animals?

"if it can't survive in Alaska, you can't have it."
That's odd, if it's true. Seems like it should be that if it can't survive in Alaska, you CAN have it, since it if escapes it will die rather than settle in and disturb the local ecosystem.

I've had friends go to Alaska, and that's exactly what I thought, too. But I've heard more than once that the laws there are a bit ridiculous. I'll be checking on Kingsnake a little later.

And I'll keep the truck at a nice temperature for the geckos. Hotels should be no problem. They may be on the cool side of their temp range, but I'm sure they'll be fine!

Good to hear Condakeeper! It's got to be better than NM. If we lose AC here we get to deal with a house that's 90 degrees.

Don't know about herps, but I've raised and shown dogs for many years, and I've always been amused by the fact that people never take their breed's characteristics into account by where they live. Breeders will raise hairless dogs, Chihuahuas, and Min Pins in Alaska and Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes in Florida. Go figure.
