    Default New Crestie Setup

    Q1. Would a 12 x 12 x18 work for one adult crested gecko?

Q2. I would like to add hydroballs in the bottom and setup a nat viv with plants. Each bag of hyroballs is 2.5 lbs. i this tank is big enough would I need 1 or 2 bags for the bottom?

If your going to do a live tank, you will need a bigger tank then the 12x12x18. Once you put in the hydroballs and the substrate it can take up 2 to 4 inches of your tank.

Good point about the amount of room for the bottom, I will keep that in mind and bump up the tank size a bit.

I thought an 12x12x18 was big enough when I first got into geckos, but after buying my geckos 18x18x24 zoo med tanks and hearing all the racket they make at night hoping around in all the extra space I am a firm advocate of the bigger the better. I have never had any problems with my geckos finding their food. It really doesn't make sense to me that some people claim they have a hard time finding their food. It is a tiny space to traverse even when people house them in a 4'x2'x'2 tank.

Sometimes babies do. Especially if you housed a 3-4gram in an 18x18x24.
Adults however, they do use all the room you give them!
