    Default 1 "PetCo find" down.....=0(

So when we hit the half off sale we snagged two crested and two baby leos. One of the leos was ours and the other for my 16l year old sister in law. We had begun to notice that ours wasn't eating well and was having a hard time catching his pin head crickets. This passed week he has been eating better and we're monitoring him closely. My sister in law's has been a champ of an eater, very active and great to watch.
We received a panicked phone call from her an hour ago ... she was crying hysterically saying that her baby Leo died.
We rushed over and sure enough. I called the manager at Petco and he told us to bring it in and get a refund or do an exchange. We're taking the little guy back to snag her another out of their new batch and hoping for the best.
so now we're on the road to the closest Petco which is an hour and a half away.

I was a little peeved that the associate I spoke to was trying to imply that my care was what killed it. I explained to him that I had other leos that were just fine and that she had followed all of our instructions to a T and always called if she had questions. We set up her enclosure and made sure there were no risks to the little guy. When I asked to speak to the manager, he was much more polite and understanding. I think I may find that associate and junk punch him while we're in.

I wont even get into the issues I went thru with them about their treatment and housing of many of their reptiles. It went to corporate needless to say.

A good old fashioned junk punch would be awesome for them !

the petco and petsmart stories seem endless, unfortunately.

i've been to one of the petcos by my house a few times now and every time i see one or more that dont look so good. the biggest problem they have is the sand. poor little skin and bones geckos with sand hanging out of their vent, dehydrated, and nearly black stomachs.

I went in, checked out the leos and they were all so small, hiding under their carpet. I pulled all of them out and chose the largest of the dozen. We swung by petsmart merely to wander, and came across three leos who were three times the size of our Petco replacement. We decided to purchase one for my husbands sister and keep the baby one in our care in case of another incident. The one we brought her appeared healthy and in good spirits, whereas with the hatchling its tough to tell.

    1. Petco cashier pulled my hatchling out of the box I put it in and squeezed the Shit out of it because it began to squirm. It in turn tried to bite his ass. I already notified the manager that if he sustains internal injuries because of that, we would be back.

    2. The petsmart associate picked up the leos hide and shook it viciously 12 +everyday inches from the bottom of the tank to get them to come out. As one held on for dear life, he flung it to the ground. I told him to take it easy and that I'd box my own Leo. Ass clown.

I don't know why you bought one at all. I would have returned the dead one, took back my money and found a responsible breeder. One time is all it would have taken for me to never walk into that place again.

I exchanged it solely because I had to come home with something for my sister in law. She paid for it with her own money and wanted another. I was only the messenger. But came across the larger one and snagged it to allow her to choose.

I'm curious...why were you giving it pinheads? My leos eat third grown crickets right off the bat. Pinheads should be reserved for dart frogs and baby chameleons and the like.

IMO leos are a pain anyway. People bring in ones they have bought at other places all the time. They get pinworms from tainted crickets incredibly easy compared to most animals and just wither away and die if not treated.

We started him on tiny meal worms and he seemed to have trouble eating them so we obtained the smallest insert t they had at Petco and eventually turned him back on to meal worms.

Black stomachs are an indicator of cryptosporidium, fatal to leos. I've had horrible terrible luck with Petco leos, the whole crypto thing is why I switched to AFT's. Try dubia roach nymphs for little leos, my AFT hatchlings liked em a lot! Good luck, I hope your leos thrive.
