    Default Pictures and camera question

    I had a little photoshoot with the crew today, and my camera was really struggling. I have an older camera that does not like macro shots, does great on landscapes and such but hates small objects. I was wondering, what kind of camera do you use to photograph your geckos?

    Anyhow, here are some pictures of the gang

    Nice pics.

    For my pics I use a Canon Rebel T1i. Seems to do well, though I would like a macro lens for it!

    I use a Sony A200. Here's some photos I've taken.

    They are all taken with the lens that comes with the camera although, like ento890, I would like a Macro Lens.

    I have a Canon PowerShot SX120. Its a quite nice point and shoot that has a macro feature, that does a really great job.

    Thanks everyone!! 3DArtist, your pictures are beautiful. You have a very artistic eye.

    My camera has a macro setting, which is what I use when I photograph the geckos, though it still struggles. Probably for every 15 photos I take, maybe one is in focus. Also, it's useless without the flash, and it tends to distort colors. Here's a picture without flash.

    My camera is a Nikon, though it's not in front of me at the moment and I'm not sure what the model is. It's been a long time since I've gotten a new camera, and I'd like a new one anyway. You guys have great cameras, though my budget is more in the range of the Canon stellarawesome mentioned. I'm hoping to find something decent for under $200.

    Interhactive Gecko, thank you for finding that thread! I should have used the search tool first, that's a great resource

    Another question, when you photograph your geckos, do you use indoor light or take them outside for natural light? any lighting suggestions?

    if you can't afford a new camera (like me) i know that some people get much better results with a light box. also, if you're shooting macro shots, you might want to invest in a tri pod. you can find them for for pretty cheap. also, with macro shot settings on some cameras you have to take pictures a little closer than what you're taking in that above picture.

    @readingkerouac Thanks for the compliment!

    I take my pictures in front of my window during the day with a black piece of really thick paper. (Can't think of the type right now. -___-) Then I use my plant light (10000k) as a extra light.
