    Default Newest cage build (DUW)

Tonight I decided to make a new home far Artemis. He is 5 months old and is ready to leave his KK and move into a bigger home. I kinda went overboard but Im really happy with the build. As you will see in the pics I used foam sheeting to cover the bottom, back and side walls to give it a more real feeling. I put in lots of fake plants and some wood for climbing along with a nice rock. He will have plenty of room to grow in here and should be very happy.

Let me know what you think.

how or what did you coat the foam in? or is that how it came? looks great whatever it is

only thing I can recommend is a hide up high. maybe a bush or something on one of the ledges. I find my guy likes to hides up on the hanging plants more so than in his hide on the ground...

I think you need a substrate. When you mist the water will just sit on top of everything even the floor. There's a reason that you want to use something absorbent like paper towel or eco earth, it soaks up the water so it doesn't stand, and then allows it to evaporate creating humidity.

You might want to rough up the walls a bit too, create some crevices so the little guy has something to move around on, rather than just straight up and down surfaces.

For what kind of critter is this for..?

IF its for a cresty you should flip it on end so its a bit taller & like suggested use some sort of substrate to hold humidity..

I live in South Florida so the humidity is never a problem, its always humid here. Its for a crested gecko who is still very small so it not being on its side right now is not going to be a problem. Plus I don't have a locking lid, when I get one Ill redo it to stand on its side and be taller. The foam is regular white foam, I just painted it with some craft spray paint that wont melt foam. The walls are not smooth. They are covered with cracks and little holes so the little crested will have no problem climbing up the walls.

Standing water is a bad idea, you asked to be told what people were thinking, that's what I think. There is a reason people use substrate.

Thanks Meg for your comments. Yes standing water is bad, but I never mist enough to have any, like I said the air around here is humid enough that i don't have to super spray the tank, just a few light sprays and most of that lands on all the fake plants. I will keep an eye on everything especially behind the foam to make sure no mold grows.
