    Default Snake only eats pinkys

    Hi all,

I was just curious if anyone ever had a snake that only ate small prey... I have a 24 inch Mexican Black Kingsnake that could easily eat fuzzies but refuses to eat anything but pinkys. When she eats she'll down the pinkys in less then a minute. I'll try offering a fuzzy and she'll refuse food for a month + if that's all I offer her. The pinkys she'll gobble up 2-3 a week without thinking twice. I just think this is kinda weird. Maybe as she gets bigger she'll start eating bigger prey. LOL Just had to share and was wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this... Oh and I feed thawed mice, not live. Temps are kept around 72-75 or so.

With corns you have to keep the temps in the mid 80's while they digest. I would think MBK would be the same. Most snake need temps in the 80's while they digest. Maybe that's why she won't eat bigger prey. How long is she? How much does she way? How big around is she? How old is she? How many pinks are you feeding and how often?

Our Mex-Mex Kingsnake does the exact same thing, must be a kingsnake thing.

Our Cali King did this forever..I don't think he started eating fuzzies until he was around 4 feet but then I fed live food always..Wasnt long after that he was eating 2 or 3 full sized mice @ once..I'd let them loose in his enclosure & watch him frkn amazing how fast they are

Thanks for the feedback! All I kept reading about Mex Black Kingsnakes were that they should be agressive feeders and that they hardly ever refuse food. Glad mine isn't the only shy eater out there! Oh and thanks for that link, I'll check it out!
Here's a couple pics of her:

    She's gorgeous!

Definitely check out that site's forum. Pinkies do not have proper nutrition for sub-adult to adult snakes.

I have a Ball that does the same thing. It's not the temps, it just seems to be the snakes preference to eat smaller prey items. It's healthy so I feed it two items instead of one. I just happens that the Corn eats one of the same size. Once a week I buy a 3 pack and we're happy.
