Default Cheap heat lamps at lowes :D

Well i had one of my old heat lamps break so my mom went out and got me a flukers 5.5 inch heat lamp. its nice and all but it was 17.00 bucks and holds up to 75 watts. so we went to lowes to return something, and i went to the lighting
section. and there it was for 6.99 a metal dome lamp at 5.5 inches. super cheap. and works great i bought 2 one for my bearded dragon and one for my crestie, its been getting cold and the temp has fallen a bit to low. so i use a infra red bulb. it raises the temperature by 5+ or a little less degrees. which is great. they also had an 8 inch and much larger sized domes too. 8 inch was around 7.98 0r 8.98 i cant remember. but all i know is that they have been working like a charm so i thought you guys should know about it.ill post a picture soon.

They are the ones I have gotten for the last 7+ years. Even when I worked at a pet store it was cheaper than my discount.

im super happy. that means i can get a few more reptiles. and not have to worry about paying so much for light fixtures.

Just be careful with the ones from Lowe's/Home Depot, I've had several blow up on me and I was even using the correct wattage.

I've never had that happen. I have about 20 of the hoods from lowes. I mostly use them for the UV lights and the 15-60 watt red bulbs. I dont have much that needs higher heat.

I had a 75 watt that had a 60 watt bulb that just plain exploded. I still don't know why! I was just sitting at my computer when there was a loud noise and pieces of it were everywhere.

It could have maybe been a surge. If you computer is on a surge protector it would have blocked it. I've heard of that happening with most normal lamps too. I run all my lights on power strips with surge protectors because of that (and I need the extra outlets).
