Default Unicorns are real :( (Warning: Deceased gecko pics)

I had a single egg from a first-year breeder that deflated two weeks after I was expecting it to hatch. No slits were apparent in the egg; the moisture seems to have escaped through the porous surface. Candling showed no movement so I made the decision to cut the egg open to see what had gone wrong. I do not generally condone the cutting open of eggs, but I knew this egg was a goner and I wanted to note any issues.

Egg at about half the mass it was previous to deflating:

Cutting it open showed that there was no fluid left in the egg:

The little gecko had a strange head deformity ending in a little hard "horn" in the center of its skull. Here are pictures.

I don't really have the heart to dissect the little bugger, just wanted to share the pics I did take.

Sorry the little one didn't have a chance to experience life outside the egg.
I do have to say the photos were very interesting, it's amazing to see how they are all curled up and able to fit into the egg.

I wonder if that is brain matter that didn't have room in the skull being that it is so short? Pattern is interesting.

Sorry for your little one JB Thank you for sharing the pics.

The "horn" was hard like bone, so I don't know. The head was wider and thicker than I'm used to seeing, not sure if that was compressed that way after the egg deflated or if that was happening while still forming.
