    You should keep some deep sand in its enclosure..These guys dont actually stay in water they tunnel down & create a loop so when it floods they have air to breath..They also lay their eggs out of water which is really cool..

    They gobble up mouth fulls of sand & plop them outside of its home so it looks like little turds all around..lol

    Im not sure how you would keep deep sand + water..maybe 1/2 the tank with some sort of plastic whith holes thru it and keep the sand in cheese cloth to keep it from sifting thru the holes..

    he would be much happier I'd think
