Here's my first attempt at using my wife's backup Nikon. I just use the auto-everything setting, and it still came out kinda blurry. No matter what, these are still best pics of I've gotten of her since I bought her. A couple of firedups and a fired down pic for ya...

To get better pictures it helps to use the macro setting (it usually looks like a flower), then they shouldnt be as blurry because that setting is meant for taking pictures of small details.
