    Default Growth Rate?

I have a baby gecko and he/she still seems pretty small, I want to know if this is an okay growth rate. It's Name Is Athena

    Hatched 8,5,09
    8,6,09 Athena weighed 1.7 Grams
    8,18,09 Athena weighed 1.6 Grams
    8,24,09 Athena weighed 1.6 Grams
    8,31,09 Athena weighed 1.8 Grams
    9,6,09 Athena weighed 1.8 grams
    9,26,09 Athena weighed 1.9 grams
    9,29,09 Athena weighed 2.0 Grams
    10,23,09 Athena weighed 2.3 Grams
    11,2,09 Athena weighed 2.3 Grams
    12,30,09 Athena weighed 2.7 Grams
    1,22,10 Athena weighed 2.7 Grams
    2,18,10 Athena weighed 3.1 Grams
    4,6,10 Athena weighed 4.2 grams

Athena was only fed CGD, and Just recently has been getting some crickets. So, do you think Athena is growing at an okay rate?

    Thanks for any help.

Hey Athena, your gecko is not eating the CGD and therefore not growing. Per your own post you just started feeding crickets and now the gecko is putting on weight. You should have this gecko in a small cage and have a small amount of CGD available at all times to make it easy for them to find it. You should alternate feeds every other day between a few mealworms and a few crickets and that way you can monitor exactly how much they are eating.

No, My gecko, athena, has always been eating CGD, She is kept in a small container with CGD always available and I have seen her eat it almost everyday. Ever since she was born I have seen her eat CGD no problems. I can tell some of it's gone, and that she sometimes smears it on her face. about the cricket she has eaten a total of about maybe 8 crickets over the two months that I have just started giving them to her. the crickets are not why she put on weight. She is fed crickets in a separate container. I know exactly what she eats.

hm? I do believe you are misunderstanding me. I'm not disagreeing with you, I was trying to let you know that the gecko doesn't eat many crickets, and is mostly fed on CGD, which I know for a fact he is eating. The Baby Gecko has eaten maybe a total of 8 crickets it's whole life. I didn't think that was even close to enough to effect his weight, if it is please tell me. You said
your gecko is not eating the CGD and therefore not growing.
I was telling you, that my gecko IS eating CGD as I see him eat it and see bits gone. You also told me
you should have this gecko in a small cage and have a small amount of CGD available at all times to make it easy for them to find it.
and I was letting you know that is already done and has been done since day one that the baby hatched. You also said
that way you can monitor exactly how much they are eating
In which I was letting you know I know exactly what he eats, I have a full chart of what he has eaten since he was born and can count the exact number of crickets he's eaten. My Question was, is that a normal growth rate for a Baby gecko, or is he growing a little slow. Sorry for the misunderstanding

I have 40+ cresties that were born between October-November and most are 10-12 grams with a few around 15 grams......but I also have a couple that are runts or just terrible eaters and they around 5 grams. As babies, cresties eat more insects for protein than fruit in the wild. The gecko might have some sort of parasite that is stunting it so you might want to consult a reptile vet or buy some of the gecko diet with the parasite preventative premixed in thier.........LOL, maybe I should by it for my little runts. My little runts I think are just nervous being housed with 4 other cresties but I do see them go after mealworms and crickets with much gusto.

You seem to have a slow grower, this happens sometimes and from what I've read, is perfectly fine. She is gaining, which is the important thing.

My 12 4-month old hatchlings were between 2 and 3 grams when I got them in February. They are between 3 and 6 grams right now; most are 4 grams. However, I do have one from a breeder that's 9 months old and is only 4 grams. She's been in quarantine for about 3 weeks and hasn't really gained, and it is frustrating to see them stay small when others are growing fast! However they just grow at their own rates.

    How often does she poop?

She's pooping fine, Is active and seems visibly fine. I'll start adding more crickets and other insects into her diet and see if she starts to grow more. She's housed alone, and it wouldn't surprise me if she is a runt as the female had a very bad season (14 eggs only two that ended up fertile, those two hatched, one died shortly after, this is the only one that made it. It was the male and female's first time ever breeding. I've checked with many people, they say it's wasn't any fault of mine that she had a bad season)

Thanks, I thought she seemed to be growing kinda slow

    Looks fine to me.

Thats a fairly common growth rate for a hatchling in the winter months. Expect a jump in the next few months especially when its starts getting nice and warm out.

My first crestie only weighed 7 grams at a year! So I know about slow growers lol. Your little guy should start to put on weight once the weather warms up as Sarah said Good luck!
